Katy Perry has spoken out after a pair of items were pulled from her shoe collection’s online site after a scandal erupted over claims they resemble blackface. The 34 year-old -singer and songwriter said she feels “saddened” after some online critics pointed out that her design – blue eyes and red lips on black leather – resembles “painful images” of blackface. Both the models, which cost $129 each, were withdrawn from the Katy Perry Collections website. “I was saddened when it was brought to my attention that it was being compared to painful images reminiscent of blackface,” Perry said in a statement. “Our intention was never to inflict any pain.” The Rue and The Ora designs were part of a collection that was released last summer in nine different colors. The singer explained that the shoes were envisioned as a “nod to modern art and surrealism.” Copyright(c) 2019 RTTNews.com. All Rights ReservedLess «
