Derek Watkins, Trumpet Player For The Beatles And Eric Clapton, Dead At 68

British trumpet player Derek Watkins, who performed with the likes of Eric Clapton, the Beatles and Elton John, has died after losing a two-year battle with cancer.

"His great love for his family and his legendary trumpet playing as well as his gift of laughter and friendship will mean he will be remembered for generations to come," a statement at Watkins' website reads.

With the Beatles, Watkins appeared on the tracks "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Penny Lane" from the Fab Four's 1967 Magical Mystery Tour album. In addition, he featured on a number of movie scores and soundtracks, including Mission: Impossible, Chicago, Indiana Jones, and every James Bond film from Dr. No to Skyfall.

He also performed with U2, Frank Sinatra and Paul McCartney throughout his career.
