Plan To Replace Mariah Carey With Jennifer Lopez On 'American Idol' Fails?

American Idol producers' attempt to replace new judge Mariah Carey with former judge Jennifer Lopez mid-season failed after Carey's lawyers quashed it, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Idol's network FOX denies the rumor, telling the Reporter that it likely started when the program's producers reached out to Jenny for a performance on the season's last show:

"This is just another ridiculous Idol judge rumor, likely started by talks of Jennifer performing on the finale."

Producer Nigel Lythgoe added that he has no such plans to swap the stars:

"I have not been included in any conversation regarding replacing Mariah with Jen this season."

The season began with good ratings but quickly began slipping. Last week's show averaged a 4.3 rating with the 18-49 demo, the show's lowest showing since its first season.
