Janelle Monae Enlists Prince And Miguel For The Electric Lady

Janelle Monae has tapped the talent of Miguel and Prince for her upcoming sophomore album, The Electric Lady.

The LP includes a collaboration with Prince, which Monae told Billboard was an honor: "I had a chance to produce an icon. It's not every day that he collaborates. I'm honored and humbled that he trusted me. He is forever my friend, and I am forever indebted. I can't say too much else about it."

The album will also feature a duet with Miguel on the song "Primetime," which samples the Pixies' "Where Is My Mind?"

Finally, the album includes "Q.U.E.E.N.," her collaboration with Erykah Badu, while touching on a variety of genres including jazz, gospel, ballads and pop-punk.

Atlantic Records Group chairman/COO Julie Greenwald explained Monae's sound: "This album has a lot of songs that can get played on mainstream radio . . . It's going to be a significant improvement from the last album cycle. Which is really going to put her music in so many people's homes."

The Electric Lady is slated for release in September.
