Aerosmith's 'Dream On' In Running To Be Massachusetts State Song

"Dream On," the 1973 classic song from Aerosmith, is in the running to become the official state song of Massachusetts. The Boston rockers will face off against Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers' "Roadrunner" when legislators discuss a new bill on Thursday, December 26.

"(Aerosmith) are definitely from Massachusetts. They are a prime example of the rags to riches story that 'Dream On' encapsulates," Rep. James Cantwell wrote in support of the cut.

He added that the song "will honor hard work and dreaming on regardless of life's hardships. Like Aerosmith the band, the song celebrates grit and remaining steadfastly committed to your dreams."

Gov. Deval Patrick refused to take sides over the future state song, saying that he's "going to sign the bill that comes before me."

"And the Aerosmith proponents didn't show up for the hearing, I heard," Patrick added. "The proponents of the others and their fans apparently showed up."
