Joe Perry Talks About What It Takes To Keep A Band Going

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry recently gave his thoughts on what it takes to keep a band together over the long haul. Speaking with USA Today, Perry used the example of Guns 'N' Roses, whose former guitarist, Slash, Aerosmith will join for a summer tour:

"It would be great for the original band to get back together, but it takes more than great songs to keep a band going. Slash has done an amazing job on his own."

Perry also addressed his five years away from Aerosmith in the late 70s and early 80s:

"Some of us were teenagers when we put this together," he says. "You can't keep five people who grew up together in a rock 'n' roll band and not have some turmoil. It's amazing we kept this thing going. ZZ Top is the only other band I know of still doing it this long with the original members."

Aerosmith and Slash begin their Let Rock Rule trek July 10 in Wantagh, NY. Full list of dates:
