Ed Sheeran Quits Social Media to Travel, Work on Third LP

Ed Sheeran alerted his 5.5 million Instagram followers and his 16 million-strong Twitter audience Saturday night that he was “taking a break” from social media for the foreseeable future, a period that will include the singer working on his follow-up to 2014’s X. Sheeran wrapped up his extensive world tour in support of X Saturday night in Auckland, New Zealand.”I’m taking a break from my phone, emails and all social media for a while,” the singer warned fans on Instagram. “I’ve had such an amazing ride over the last five years but I find myself seeing the world through a screen and not my eyes so I’m taking this opportunity of me not having to be anywhere or do anything to travel the world and see everything I missed.”While Sheeran is going dark social media-wise, fans can likely expect to see the singer at the 58th annual Grammy Awards on February 15th, where his “Thinking Out Loud” is nominated for both Song of the Year and Record of the Year as well as Best Pop Solo Performance. In the interim, Sheeran will also undergo an operation to repair a burst eardrum, an injury he sustained after jumping off a yacht.
