The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced Monday afternoon that they have identified Kenneth Troyer as the man who was responsible for the rape and murder of Karen Klaas on January 30, 1976. Klaas was the ex-wife of Righteous Brothers singer Bill Medley. Troyer was killed by the police after he had escaped from prison back in March of 1982. He had been serving time for burglary, but was suspected of carrying out multiple sexual assaults. Authorities announced over the weekend that the 41-year-old cold case murder had been solved, but waited until Monday, the anniversary of Klaas’ death, to reveal who was responsible. They revealed that Troyer was identified through the use of familial DNA testing. Medley and his son with Klaas, Darrin, both appeared alongside law enforcement officials when they identified Troyer. Medley seemed pleased to finally have closure. “It has been a long road, and we are just thrilled we can close the book,” Medley stated. “It was something you were hoping for for 40 years, and all of a sudden they said, ‘We got him.’ ” Copyright(c) 2017 RTTNews.com.
