Elton John celebrated the 25th Anniversary of his AIDS Foundation on November 7. The event was held at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City and was hosted by Neil Patrick Harris. Aretha Franklin performed a 9-song set at the event and additional performances were delivered by Heather Headley and violinist Joshua Bell. Guests in attendance included President Bill Clinton, Governor Andrew Cuomo, Billy Joel and Sting among others. John was also honored with Harvard’s Humanitarian award earlier this week. He accepted the honor in a reception at the prestigious university and shared his vision for a better humanity in his acceptance speech. “Today, my mission to help other people embrace their own humanity and that of others is the most powerful and positive force in the whole wide world, he told the crowd. “Through my career and humanitarian work, I’ve seen how people can be pulled together. The human spirit is the most powerful thing in the world, and when it embraces kindness and does good things, wonderful things happen,” he said. “Nothing is more profound or powerful than recognizing our common humanity. I know how easy it is to despair. We can rise above it and lift people up. We can change the world, and embrace our common humanity. This period of darkness we’re going through right now is the period right before the light we will all treasure,” John added. Copyright(c) 2017 RTTNews.com. All Rights ReservedLess «
