Mariah Carey tops the list of Artist Inspired Baby Names, according to Name.org. The website states that nearly 100,000 (98,000) babies have been named Mariah in honor of the diva. “She suffered a breakdown in 2001 which was followed by poor reception of her film Glitter and its soundtrack,” Name.Org says. “While unfortunate, her career decline makes her especially interesting because she created both a dramatic increase as well as a dramatic decrease in babies named Mariah.” The top of the list also features Whitney Houston, 80,000 babies named, Mya, 50,000, and Aaliyah, 79,000. Name.org listed the top 20 musicians that have inspired baby names since the start of their careers, and also linked the names’ popularity with spikes in the artists’ successes. The list includes names such as Ariana and Selena, Rihanna and Miley.
