A judge has dismissed a copyright lawsuit that was pressed against Taylor Swift for her track “Shake It Off.” The writers behind the pop act 3LW’s track “Playas Gon’ Play” claim that Swift flagrantly made use of their hook in the chorus to her hit track. On their track 3LW sings, “Playas, they gonna play / And haters, they gonna hate,” while Swift declared “The players gonna play, play, play, play, play and the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate.” U.S. District Judge Michael Fitzgerald on Tuesday has granted Swift her move to dismiss the case, but is giving the writers a chance to amend their suit by the end of February before a full dismissal. “The lynchpin of this entire case is thus whether or not the lyrics “Playas, they gonna play / And haters, they gonna hate” are eligible for protection under the Copyright Act,” he writes. “[B]y 2001, American popular culture was heavily steeped in the concepts of players, haters, and player haters. . . .
