Carrie Underwood debuted the music video for “The Champion” on Today Friday morning. The new visual, which was directed by Jimmy Lynch, features a mix of behind the scenes shots of Underwood and her collaborator Ludacris, along with footage of major moments in sports and shots of everyday heroes. The song debuted in full during Super Bowl LII last month and was used extensively during the coverage of the Winter Olympics. On a more somber note, Underwood’s childhood friend, Checotha, Oklahoma police officer Justin Durrett, died from injuries he suffered in a car crash earlier this week. Durrett was injured in a single-vehicle crash on his way to the local police department. He suffered a broken neck, bruised spine and other injuries that admitted him into the intensive care unit. Police officials said he died as a result of his injuries. Underwood made a $10,000 donation to Durrett and his family last week through a GoFundMe page that was set up to help with his recovery.
