Dr. Richard Snellgrove has been acquitted of charges that he contributed to the overdose death of guitarist Matthew Roberts, one of the founding members of rock band 3 Doors Down. The Alabama physician was indicted in 2016 and charged with 13 counts of writing prescriptions for fentanyl and other drugs that were not medically necessary and possibly contributed to the musician’s death. Roberts was found dead on August 20, 2016, at a hotel in West Bend, Wisconsin, where he was to perform at a charity concert. Snellgrove’s attorney Dennis Knizley provided text messages which showed that the guitarist had also been using street drugs to treat his addiction and argued that the death couldn’t be directly tied to Snellgrove alone.
