31 years after the release of the hit song “Look Away,” an Englishman named Brenden Greaves is suing the songwriter Diane Warren alleging that a tune he wrote in 1987, when he was 14, is similar to the 1988 Chicago hit of the same name. Greaves notes that a slight change was made to the original chorus of the hit, “If you see me walking by / With a tear in my eye / Look away, baby look away.” And Warren’s version is, “If you see me walking by / And the tears are in my eyes / Look away, baby, look away.” Greaves says Diane won copyright for her tune 8 months after he submitted his “Look Away” to the National Schools Make Music Competition in England.
