Tina Turner has revealed that she underwent a kidney transplant in Switzerland last year with an organ donated by her husband. The 78-year-old singer said she suffered from kidney disease and by 2016 her kidneys were at “20 percent and plunging rapidly.” in her upcoming biography, Tina Turner: My Love Story. Turner, who married German music executive Erwin Bach in 2013, says that her husband “shocked me by saying that he wanted to give me one of his kidneys.” “I could hardly believe it then, and there are times when I still can’t believe it. When he thought about his future, he thought of me. ‘My future is our future,’ he told me.” In “Tina Turner: My Love Story,” the music legend details her second chance at love after a physically abusive relationship with her former husband Ike Turner. Turner and Bach first met in 1985 and married in 2013. He is 16 years younger than her. Excerpts from the book were published in the Daily Mail newspaper and released by its U.K. publisher Penguin Random House. The book will be released in Britain and North America later this month.
