R. Kelly is reportedly seeking a distributor to release his newly completed album, as the controversial singer split with Sony just a few weeks ago. According to Billboard, Kelly had completed his 15th album before Sony’s RCA dropped him earlier this month. However, he was able to reclaim ownership of his unreleased works as part of his agreement to leave the record label. Sony split with Kelly just two weeks after the broadcast of the six-part Lifetime documentary series Surviving R. Kelly, which raised allegations of sexual misconduct that have been levied against the singer for years. The report says that Kelly has several options to release the album, as he could opt for an independent distributor or sign a new deal with a new label or he could also potentially upload the project directly onto Spotify. Meanwhile, a representative for Spotify told the publication that Kelly won’t be able to directly release his work on the platform through its direct-upload feature as it is currently in beta mode. Since Surviving R. Kelly’s release, several artists have severed their ties with Kelly and have apologized for their collaborations with him, including A-listers like Lady Gaga, Chance the Rapper, and Celine Dion.
