Michael Jackson’s estate has canceled pre-Broadway shows in Chicago of a new musical about the life and work of the King of Pop, titled Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough. The show, which is written by Lynn Nottage and directed and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon, will now open directly on Broadway in the summer of 2020. Don’t Stop was scheduled to debut at Chicago’s James M. Nederlander Theatre on October 29, with a December 1 closing date. According to the producers of the show, the decision to change the plans was due to “scheduling difficulties” caused by a labor dispute. A five-week job action by the Actors’ Equity Association, which was resolved last week, delayed a planned developmental lab for the show. However, Actors’ Equity has refused to bear the blame for the cancellation of the pre-Broadway shows, saying that any delays caused by the strike were “modest.” “It’s incredibly disappointing that the actors and stage managers who are currently working to develop this project were not informed about a major production change before a public media announcement was made,” Brandon Lorenz, Communications Director of the Actors’ Equity Association, said in a statement. “The developmental lab that was scheduled for this production was delayed by 12 working days during the strike,” he added. “It is difficult to understand how a modest delay in February would impact a run that was scheduled for late October.” Copyright(c) 2019 RTTNews.com.
