Rock icon Stevie Nicks recently sat down for a lengthy interview with Rolling Stone to talk about everything from gender equality in the music industry to her immense popularity in the world of Drag Queens. The only female artist to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice – first, as a part of Fleetwood Mac, then as a solo artist – Nicks threatened to secretly join the celebration at “Night of a Thousand Stevies,” a Stevie Nicks fan event held in New Orleans and New York City on Saturday, May 4. “I’ll be in such fantastic makeup that I’ll be able to float around. Nobody will know it’s me, until I walk on stage and start singing ‘Edge of 17.’ Everybody will faint and they’ll have to call ambulances,” she said, jokingly. Nicks recalls that she made a special pact with fellow female bandmate of Fleetwood Mac, Christine McVie, that “our songs and our music would be equally as good as all the men surrounding us,” adding that she feels lucky to have “joined a band that happened to have another woman in it.” Nicks, who will be joining Fleetwood Mac on their 2019 world tour, says that even at the “ripe and totally young age of 70,” she feels excited about the long and winding road that is her career. “I tell myself, ‘Do it now, because you’re spry, you’re in good shape, you can still do the splits, you can still dance onstage and wear a short skirt and high six-inch heels,'” she added.
