Elton John, who is currently in New York as part of his three-year worldwide farewell tour, says he’s surprised at how much he’s enjoying his trek. “I’m having so much fun. I didn’t expect to have as much fun as I’m having, but what we try to do visually and musically is elevate it to another level, because if you’re going to do one more tour, you’ve got to make it a little special,” Elton told the Daily Mirror. “I’m singing really well, too, and, visually, it’s great. I’m having a terrific time,” he added. Elton called the experience “joyous,” noting that he gets the opportunity to thank fans for “50 years of support and love.” “It hasn’t become a drudge yet,” Elton said but cautioned, “I mean, ask me in another 250 shows…” Asked about why he wants to quit, Elton, who has already played to about a million people on this run, said he is fed up with traveling, and added, “By the time I finish I’ll be at least 75. T hat will be a chance to reassess what I want to do. I just owe it to [my] children to be there for them.” He says further, “I’m trying to stay in the moment and not think about what’s going to happen.” Elton plays New York’s Madison Square Garden Tuesday and Wednesday, and Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Friday and Saturday.
