UB40 saxophonist Brian Travers has revealed that he will be forced to miss the band’s 40th anniversary U.K. tour due to an unexpected diagnosis with a brain tumor. “I shall be there in spirit, cheering them on from my convalescence and thinking of all the wonderful people out there who have supported us for the last 40 years, who I am now incredibly proud to count as friends,” said Travers, revealing that the doctors discovered two tumors in his brain when he was admitted to the hospital after suffering a seizure last week. Fellow bandmembers expressed their regret and sadness in an official statement, adding that they are “sure our friends and fans will join us in wishing Brian a full and speedy return to health, and return to us.” The 40th anniversary tour is scheduled to kick-off at the Portsmouth Guildhall on Friday, March 29, the day after Travers is to undergo surgery.
