Controversial R&B star R. Kelly avoided going back to jail on Wednesday by paying $62,000 in back child support to his ex-wife, Andrea Lee. According to TMZ, the payment covers the singer’s due for March, April and May. Kelly’s legal team had asked the judge to lower the $20,000 monthly payments, as the singer was no longer able to afford such a hefty support payment. The TMZ report also says that Kelly will have to pay an additional $32,000 in outstanding interest, educational fees for his 21-year-old daughter and lawyer costs. Kelly will also have to place the balance for his June, July and August payments in an escrow account ahead of schedule. “He is not a deadbeat dad,” Kelly’s attorney, Lisa Damico, told the court, according to The Chicago Sun-Times. “All he wants to do is to do right by his kids.” On March 6, Kelly was arrested on suspicion of failure to pay $161,663 in back child support at a court hearing. He was released from custody three days later after a payment was made anonymously on his behalf. Copyright(c) 2019 RTTNews.com. All Rights ReservedLess «
