Music legend Elton John recently addressed one of the most prominent criticisms of his biopic, Rocketman, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this month. In a backstage interview with The Sun, the star revealed that the movie “floored” him and that Taron Edgerton, the young actor who plays him in the film is “beyond belief.” “It’s like watching me. It’s quite extraordinary, he’s so me-like. He’s a megastar,” Elton said. The fact that the film is being criticized for casting a straight man to play the gay icon is “bulls-t,” continued Elton, adding, “If people don’t like it, review-wise, or it doesn’t make one dollar, it’s the movie I wanted to make and that’s all that counts. I can look back and say, ‘You know what, I love it. I can live with it’.” Directed by Dexter Fletcher, the film explores several intimate chapters in the star’s life, including his battle with alcoholism, drugs and sex addiction.
