The Elton John biopic Rocketman had a strong opening weekend in the U.S., collecting about $25 million. Rocketman is the No. 3 film in the U.S. behind Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which grossed $49 million, and the Will Smith romp Aladdin, which collected $42.3 million. Paramount Pictures executive Kyle Davies said Rocketman is an R-rated movie for adults. “For us, the advantage of going in the summer was counter-programming,” he told Variety. “In the summer, you need to be be this event franchise that everyone knows about, and if you’re not that, you better be good and original, and I think that’s what Rocketman is.” Outside the U.S., the film brought in $19.2 million collection from 40 markets. Rocketman was first released in the U.K., where it earned $8.6 million during opening weekend. (Photo: Paramount Pictures) Copyright(c) 2019 RTTNews.com. All Rights ReservedLess «
