RECALL: 180,000 smoke alarms

A smoke alarm maker has recalled 180,000 smoke alarm units.
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission says the smoke detectors may not activate during a fire, posing a risk to consumers.
The maker, Universal Security Instruments, says it has received 134 reports of the recalled smoke alarm not activating as part of its activation.
Recalled smoke alarms have model numbers of MI3050S and MI3050SB and with date codes between 2015JAN19 through 2016JUL11.
The smoke alarms are white with a diameter of 5½ inches.
Consumers would have purchased the recalled smoke alarms from July 2015 to December 2016.
Not at all of the listed models fall under the recall, the USPCS says. Consumers can check to see if their smoke detectors are properly functioning.
Consumers should press the test button on the smoke alarm to determine if it is operating properly.
The safety commission says that “If the alarm sounds no further action is required.”
A smoke alarm that does sound during a test should be replaced. Consumers can reach out to Universal Security for a replacement.
