I’m often told that I need to be more open..
So I did the most “guy” thing ever and left it to a professional to help summarize things! Shaunti Feldhahn, a syndicated newspaper columnist and author of “For Women Only: What You Need to Know About the Inner Lives of Men,” offers these eight things guys wish women knew about men:
I’m going to see what Shaunti knows about my feelings, and see how she measures up..
-Men would rather feel unloved than inadequate and disrespected:
Yeah, this makes sense to me actually. It sounds horrible to say I’d be ok feeling “unloved” because that’s not exactly true. But I think most dudes can tolerate one more than the other.
-A man’s anger is often a response to feeling disrespected by his wife:
Or when the guy at the drive-thru window hassles me about asking for extra ketchup packets.. I mean, is there a ketchup shortage I don’t know about? Or when I get home from spending $9.00 on a car wash and the car is still dirty… Or when… Actually yeah I don’t agree with this one at all.
-Men are insecure
No, YOU’RE insecure… Ok this one is spot on. Next!
-Men feel the burden of being the provider for their family
Yeah I get this one for sure. even in the 21st century when the man is not always expected to be the family’s provider, there IS still a social pressure. Whether that’s a genetic thing, a societal thing, or what.. I don’t know.
-Men struggle with visual temptation
I think “struggle” might be a little off base here, but I see what she’s going for. Men will look. Not just at the ladies, but pretty much ANYTHING that strikes that nerve center in the brain. Cars, money, the neighbor’s gorgeous lawn. (Seriously, Jake. Your yard is epic!!)
-Men enjoy romance but doubt their skills to be romantic
I blame romantic comedies for this one. Admittedly women are asked by movies and TV to live up to near impossible expectations in certain categories, yes. But! As much as I love my wife I’m not spending 2 days spreading rose petals around the room and lighting 450 candles before I brine and cook a Cornish game hen. I will, however, let her pick the Netflix movie. That’s me being romantic.
-Men care about their wife’s appearance
Well sure. But that makes men sound shallow. It’s not that we equate appearance to value. But a person’s cleanliness and social health is usually a pretty good barometer for how things are going. 9 times outta 10, if someone LOOKS good, they’re doing well. If our wives look good, that means they’re happy.
-Men want their wives to know how much they love them
So very, very true.
A pretty fair assessment I’d say. I think most men would agree that we would like women to know how much we like napping as well. Naps are the best.
