One of the pleasant surprises of the third season of Netflix’s “Stranger Things” was the appearance of Maya Hawke.

Maya is the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke.

Maya Hawke debuted a few singles that show her talents go beyond acting.

One of these singles, “Stay Open,” is song that borders on a hymn with its gentle tones.

It has a bright, classical tune that could make it at home in 1989 or 2019.

Its emotional lyrics suggest a familiarity with the pulls and pushes of love. Nearly anyone could relate to its message without being so generic it loses any meaning.

“Sorry that I lost your key / I’m  not accustomed to security / There’s nothing you could promise me / That’ll let me catch my breath”

MTV praised Hawke’s singles.

“Her voice is so calm, so angelic, that it could quell the anger of even the mightiest denizen of the Upside Down,” MTV wrote.
