Lady Gaga is an icon of artistic talent and beauty. She is changing the conversation on what it means to be beautiful. But she says she doesn’t feel beautiful all the time.

In an interview with Allure, she says, “I never felt beautiful, and I still have days that I don’t feel beautiful.”

Some artists are known for their flamboyant or trend-setting fashions. Lady Gaga has that. But she also is known for her iconic makeup work.

In the interview, she says that part of the reason she uses makeup is to help her rediscover her inner strength.

“Then I put makeup on, and before I know it I feel this superhero within. It gives me those wings to fly.”

She talks about her transformation from Stefani Germanotta (her real name) to Lady Gaga as a journey of finding strength.

“When I became Lady Gaga when I was younger, it was because I discovered makeup. It means so much to me on a deep visceral level — the power of makeup to change how you feel when you’re at your lowest.”

The leading actress of “A Star is Born” was named the cover girl for the October issue of Allure. She is also starting her own cosmetics brand, Haus Laboratories.
