Singer Billie Eilish says she “can’t win” when it comes to body shamers on the Internet.

Plenty of fans love Eilish’s signature look of baggy clothes and bright, colorful hair. But, like everyone else in the world, the singer likes to switch up her look occasionally.

However, it doesn’t always come without backlash from haters on the Internet.

Take earlier this year, for example, when Eilish went on a vacation with some of her friends. She posted memories of the trip with photos of her in a swimsuit.

While this would be considered as a normal post by anyone else, many were quick to comment on her body and swimsuit.

“It was trending,” she recalled to Dazed. “There were comments like, ‘I don’t like her anymore because as soon as she turns 18 she’s a whore.’ Like, dude. I can’t win. I can-not win.”

Eilish said it reminded her of the one time she decided to wear a tank top and post a photo in it.

“I saw comments like, ‘How dare she talk about not wanting to be sexualized and wear this?!'” she said.

Eilish has been very open with her journey to accepting her body image — saying she hasn’t always loved it, but over time her self-image has improved.

“I would see it sometimes and be like, ‘Whose body is that?'” Billie continued, “It’s not that I like (my body) now, I just think I’m a bit more OK with it.”

For Eilish, this means switching up her look occasionally to become more confident in her image. And it’s not to create a message of deeper meaning — it’s just because she wants to wear what she wants to wear.

“If I wore a dress to something, I would be hated for it,” she shared. “People would be like, ‘You’ve changed, how dare you do what you’ve always rebelled against?’ I’m like, ‘I’m not rebelling against anything, really.’ I can’t stress it enough. I’m just wearing what I wanna wear.”
