Huntsman SportsFest 2021 to Be Held in Person to Fund Cancer Research

SALT LAKE CITY– Huntsman Cancer Foundation’s (HCF) iconic Huntsman SportsFest will be held on June 12, 2021 as an in-person event. Each year, this event brings the community together to fund groundbreaking research at Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI). With the health and safety of participants, volunteers, and staff in mind, this year’s event will include several adaptations. Like last year, the event will include a virtual participation option.

“We’re thrilled to be able to hold this year’s event in person,” said Jen Murano, director of events at HCF. “While this year will look different to keep everyone safe, we’re excited to gather and walk, run, and ride for cancer research at Huntsman Cancer Institute.” Event adjustments to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 include masking and social-distancing requirements, hand-washing stations, online-only registration, and more.

The Huntsman SportsFest is an exciting single-day fundraising event that starts and ends at the University of Utah’s Fort Douglas Field. Participants may register as individuals, families, or teams for a day of fun and celebration to support cancer research.

The 2020 Virtual Huntsman SportsFest raised an impressive $330,000 for cancer research. This year’s event will offer both in-person and virtual options to allow participants to join in the way that works best for them. The June 11 opening ceremonies will be streamed on the Huntsman Heroes and Huntsman Cancer Institute Facebook pages and at huntsmansportsfest.com. Participants can also follow and tag Huntsman Heroes, #huntsmansportsfest on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for updates.

Since its inception in 2010, this event has raised more than $4.5 million to support lifesaving cancer research at HCI. The 2021 fundraising goal is $500,000. 100% of proceeds going to support research. Donors may direct support to specific areas of research such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, etc.

“We’ve seen an incredible response from individuals and sponsors willing to step up and donate to support HCI’s vision of a cancer-free frontier,” said Susan Sheehan, president and chief operating officer of HCF. “We’re looking forward to being with and supporting one another again as we safely gather for this year’s Huntsman SportsFest. Our participants are true heroes, raising much-needed funds to advance cancer research at HCI.”
