The Sunday Morning Session of the 187th General Conference

21,000 people filled the conference center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for the Sunday morning session of the 187th General Conference. LDS Church President Thomas S. Monson announced that five new temples will be built in Brasilia, Brazil; the greater Manila, Philippines area; Nairobi, Kenya; Pocatello, Idaho; and Saratoga Springs, Utah. He also spoke briefly on his faith in the Book of Mormon, advising LDS faithful to read it daily. Joy D. Jones, Primary general president, talked about raising a generation of children who are resistant to sin. Elder Yoon Hwan Choi spoke about his own conversion to the LDS Church as a young man in South Korea, and how his father’s missionary work led to 130 people joining the church. Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve invited Mormons to be first responders for the Lord’s children in need. Elder L. Whitney Clayton of the Presidency of the Seventy talked about the importance of daily prayer and scripture reading in strengthening faith and assuaging doubts. Elder Dallin H. Oaks of the Quorum of the Twelve spoke about the plan of salvation and God’s authority as the eternal father of all people. Finally, President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, second counselor in the First Presidency, spoke about replacing fear with the perfect love of Jesus Christ.
