Mariah Carey has been slapped with a $3 million counter lawsuit for the cancellation of a string of tour dates in South America. The singer had initially sued a concert promoter in the area after she was booked to play October 28, 2016, in Argentina and on October 30, 2016, in Chile but claimed she never received a full deposit for the shows. Now the promoter is claiming that Carey had no right to “unilaterally cancel” the performances and that she was still obliged to appear despite her agency, United Talent Agency, giving the promoter advanced warning that payment was required posthaste: “Carey’s unilateral cancellation of the Argentina and Chile Performances — a mere three days prior to the Argentina Performance and less than a week before the Chile Performance — constituted material breaches of her obligations under each of the Tour Agreements,” writes attorney Robert Allen.
