Annie Lennox Becomes Chancellor Of Glasgow Caledonian University

Annie Lennox has become the first woman to be installed as chancellor of Scotland’s Glasgow Caledonian University. The Eurythmics singer, who succeeds Nobel Peace Prize winner Professor Muhammad Yunus to the ceremonial post, was installed as chancellor during a special ceremony at the Glasgow campus earlier this week. “I only wish my parents, grandparents and great grandparents could be here today to witness this special occasion, as it would have filled them with pride and disbelief, proving in some way that miracles can sometimes happen. After all, it’s with thanks to them that I am here in the first place,” she said. Lennox said she felt “humbled and awed beyond measure” by her appointment and pledged she would use the office to further the university’s mission to promote the common good.” The singer who has reportedly sold over 83 million albums worldwide during her four-decade musical career, said she never earned a degree but could be considered “an honorary graduate from the school of life,” and added that she grew up in an era when “young women from working-class backgrounds gaining university degrees were as rare as kangaroos in the Antarctic.” Copyright(c) 2018 RTTNews.com.
