Maroon 5 Keyboardist Talks Playing Super Bowl Halftime Show

Even as some artists are boycotting the 2019 Super Bowl Halftime show, Maroon 5 keyboardist PJ Morton defended his band’s decision to accept the invitation to perform at the February 3 event. Morton’s bandmates in the pop rock group are also joining him, who believes getting a chance to perform at the Super Bowl is a “lifelong dream”. “You work hard and you expect and you want these things to happen, but there’s no guarantees,” Morton told People. “We were just in shock initially, and then all of the excitement came.” Vic Oyedeji, founder of Unstrippedvoice and the creator of a petition calling on artists to back out of their scheduled performance at the Super Bowl halftime show, has called on Maroon 5 to take a knee in protest. Rihanna reportedly turned down an invitation to perform at the Super Bowl in support of Colin Kaepernick, the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback who has essentially been exiled from the NFL because of his decision to kneel during the national anthem.
