The Halloween cult classic ‘Hocus Pocus’ is a spooky season tradition. Every October I snuggle up, turn on ‘Hocus Pocus,’ and remember why it’s the best Halloween flick.
If you’ve never seen ‘Hocus Pocus,’ stop what you are doing and watch it right this instant! Bette Midler will put a spell on you if you don’t.
So, in celebration of Halloween, here are 7 reasons why ‘Hocus Pocus’ is witchin’ (in no particular order because the whole film is a masterpiece).
1. The Sanderson sisters are a whole mood… at all times
No witches can compare to the Sanderson Sisters. They’re full of sass, sarcasm, and spells. It’s too hard to pick just one glowing moment, so here are a few:
Winnie understands how difficult it is to wake up in the morning
While you may be radiating positivity every morning, Winnie explains how we all internally feel.
The sisters understand… They just do
And of course, every so often there’s someone we would like to cast a spell on
Just like thisssss.
2. Dani Dennison is the real hero of the story
I aspire to be just like Dani when I grow up. She’s brave, doesn’t take anyone’s sour attitude, and has a heart of gold.
Example a: Dani welcomes the Sanderson sisters back to life after her brother lit the black flame candle…because she is the good witch after all.
Example b: When Dani, an 8-year-old, totally tells off the high school bullies for trying to steal her candy
Not to mention the time she called out her brother for not wanting to take her trick-or-treating
3. Thackeray Binx’s is a real stand up guy, even when he’s a cat
Thackeray Binx risked his human form for his little sister, encouraged Dani throughout their journey, and eventually defeated the witches.
4. The Sanderson sisters incompetence regarding the modern world
I understand they’ve been dust for a minute, but… it’s water. It existed in 1692.
Oh! When they believed a man dressed up as the devil was actually the devil
The sisters aren’t the sharpest spell in the book.
