Gladys Knight says she chose to sing the national anthem ahead of Sunday’s Super Bowl LIII in hopes it will help bring people together. The 74-year-old singer said the performance is all the more special because the venue is the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. “Atlanta is my home. My background. My family that lifted me up. This city is amazing,” she told ET. Despite criticism from her fans who oppose the NFL’s divisive stance on Colin Kaepernick, who knelt during the national anthem in protest, the veteran singer is standing her ground. “This is my country. This is my state, my city and I love my country. It’s really as simple as that,” Knight said. “I choose all my songs by what they say, or what they would make me [feel].” “I think about the people that fought, and marched, and died, and did all those things for our country. I’m proud to just honor them by singing that anthem,” she added. Copyright(c) 2019 RTTNews.com. All Rights ReservedLess «
