There’s a new face under Batman’s mask. Robert Pattinson is slated to take on the role of Bruce Wayne in the new Batman movie.
However, the Twilight star said it was mind-boggling to him he was offered the part. “I was so far away from ever thinking it was a realistic prospect. I literally do not understand how I’ve got it, at all,” Pattinson told Esquire U.K. “It’s kind of insane.”
Pattinson was not the only one in for a surprise. After the news dropped Pattinson would be playing the popular superhero, D.C. fans weren’t shy about sharing their opinions.

When the Pattison found out he was going to be Batman back in May, he spent hours Googling himself, according to Variety. Apparently, the casting sheet had been leaked before Pattinson even had a chance to audition.
“Everyone was so upset. Everyone was panicking from my team. I sort of thought that had blown up the whole thing,” Pattinson told Variety.
Except, Pattinson didn’t mind the backlash. “It’s much more fun when you’re an underdog,” said Pattinson. “There’s no expectation of you.”
Turns out, the former vampire heartthrob is living out his childhood dream. Batman is Pattinson’s favorite superhero.
“I think it’s because he doesn’t have any superpowers.”

The next question people are wondering is if we’ll see Pattison on-screen with his mortal mate. Kristen Stewart did not shy away from the prospect.
“I’m down,” she told Variety when asked if she’d ever want to appear in Batman. “I’m definitely not turning that down.”
Batman will be released in November 2021.
