This food-themed episode of John Krasinki’s Some Good News show featured some incredible stories of people using food to give back to their communities. A special “SGN Potluck” showcased recipes from four lucky viewers who had their dishes prepared by famous chefs.

Using food to give back

The COVID-19 pandemic has put a staggering halt to local restaurants and the employees who work at them. Many folks are struggling to keep their pantries stocked with groceries. Thankfully, restaurant owners and ordinary citizens are doing their part to help. John used this episode to showcase these extraordinary people who are using their time and resources for others in need.

Stories of a chef who is building pop-up kitchens in stadiums and churches to “feed as many people as possible.” Renown chef Guy Fieri is leading the Restaurant Relief America fundraising campaign, raising money for restaurant workers, and a landlord is offering free rent for a NY pizza shop who is feeding healthcare professionals.

Krasinki concluded, “It’s heartwarming to point out that every single person in that segment, that was making food to make a difference, they were doing it all without charging a dollar because that is just what heroes do.”

The episode ended with a virtual potluck featuring guests Guy Fieri, Martha Stewart, David Chang, and Stanley Tucci. The guest chef’s made dishes from the recipes submitted by viewers of the show. The chefs were pleased with the recipes and expressed high praise.

“My wife said it was the best thing she has eaten during quarantine,” said David Chang.

One last surprise came when Krasinki told Fieri that PepsiCo was donating $3 million to his relief fund. Fieri was speechless as he paused for a moment in shock. He then responded, “Are you serious!” This donation put the total amount raised by his fund at about $20 million.
