Celebrating Mother’s Day during a pandemic is nothing any of us would have expected. Mother’s Day is an annual reminder to show appreciation and cherish the relationship we have with our moms.

Given the circumstances, many of us will be celebrating from home this year. Though, we must remember Mother’s Day isn’t canceled; the sentiment behind the holiday is more meaningful than ever before.

Gifts like a spa day and a fancy dinner are off the table. But what happened to our creative side? Now is the time to explore how creative we can get while celebrating Mother’s Day.

With some creativity and preparation, you can give your mom the Mother’s Day she deserves — and, let’s face it, needs — during the pandemic. This list is full of ideas that don’t require you or your mom to leave the house, so you can continue to practice social distancing and stay safe.

5 ideas to celebrate Mother’s Day during COVID-19

1. Deck out her front door

While you are dropping off her card and flowers, you can spend a little extra time to decorate the front door. One suggestion may be a spring wreath. It won’t be up for just one day and the whole neighborhood can see how much you love your mom.

2. Assemble a breakfast spread

Though we can’t go to restaurants right now, we can still attempt to create our own breakfast spread. Try asking your mom what her favorite breakfast is and recreate it at home.

3. Tour a museum virtually

For example, the Smithsonian museum is offering a free virtual tour. Museums are a great way to see things you wouldn’t have thought existed and a good conversation starter.

4. Create a slide show

Show your mom your best memories with her by reliving them through a slide show. Gather some photos- old and new- and share it with her. It’s also reassuring to know that social distancing won’t last forever and you will be together again soon.

5. Create a spa day basket

Yes- all spas are closed, but it doesn’t mean she can’t still relax. Put together a basket with soaps, bath bombs, face masks, manicure items, and her favorite soothing items.
