LoveLoud Festival Shows the Significance of LGBTQ+-Focused Events

The LoveLoud Festival is an event put on to support LGBTQ+ youth, started by lead singer of Imagine Dragons Dan Reynolds.

The LoveLoud Festival is a family-friendly music festival started in 2017 by the lead singer of Imagine Dragons, Dan Reynolds. He created the festival to show support and solidarity for Utah’s LGBTQ+ youth and to spark conversations about what it means to love and support them unconditionally. This year, the festival has expanded with dates in Washington D.C. (October 17) and Austin, Texas (November 10), in addition to Salt Lake City, UT (November 3).

Reynolds created the festival to highlight some of the challenges LGBTQ+ youth face, especially regarding mental health, housing, and discrimination. While kids might feel isolated and alone in their struggles, the festival is a place of celebration and joy where they can lighten their loads.

This year’s theme is to “Unite the world through music,” to create a community space filled with love and acceptance. Proceeds from the festival also go to support organizations that serve LGBTQ+ youth, including the Utah Aids Foundation, the Tegan and Sara Foundation, Genderbands, and more.

The show will also feature appearances by Dan Reynolds and Tyler Glenn of the Neon Trees. More artists will be announced closer to the concert’s date.

The first festival in 2017 took place at the Brent Brown Ballpark in Orem and has grown year after year since then. In 2018 and 2019, the show moved to venues in Salt Lake City to accommodate more people. The event was put on hold in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, the event was held at the Vivint Arena, now known again as the Delta Center – where this year’s events will unfold.
